Dutch author and former investigative journalist Fons Burger today releases his new novel 2125 – The Hibernator. The book takes an unusual approach within climate fiction: instead of dystopia, it presents a future where humanity survives by finally embracing long-term thinking.

The story follows Max Flowerdale, who enters a controlled hibernation in 2025 and wakes up a century later in a world rebuilt through science, activism, and responsible governance. The novel offers a realistic, optimistic vision of 2125 and serves as the lead-in to Burger’s nonfiction book The Only Possible Solution, which will be published on February 26.

With these two books, Burger aims to show how a livable future becomes possible when societies look beyond the next election cycle.
